Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 12 sheets of JusRol Vegan + Gluten-free Puff Pastry

Filling

  • 130g dairy-free cream cheese
  • 15g gluten-free or plain flour
  • 15g caster sugar + extra for sprinkling
  • 4 tablespoons dairy-free milk
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C fan and line two large baking trays with greaseproof paper to prevent sticking during baking.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheet while keeping the baking paper underneath to avoid sticking. Use a rolling pin to smooth out any wrinkles. Lightly dust with flour if the pastry feels sticky.
  3. Cut Pastry Shapes: Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the lined baking tray. Then gently press a smaller heart-shaped cutter inside the larger heart to create an indentation without cutting through.
  4. Make Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, blend the dairy-free cream cheese, flour, and caster sugar until thick and creamy. Transfer this mixture to a piping bag or use a spoon if unavailable.
  5. Assemble Danishes: Pipe or spoon the cream cheese filling into the center indentations of the pastry hearts. Arrange a few slices of fresh strawberry on top of the cream cheese filling of each pastry.
  6. Brush and Sprinkle: Lightly brush the edges of the pastry hearts with dairy-free milk, then sprinkle extra caster sugar over the edges to encourage browning.
  7. Bake: Place the tray in the middle of the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden and flaky. Remove the tray once done and place the second tray into the oven to bake.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the baked danishes to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with icing sugar for a finishing touch.

Notes

  • Using gluten-free puff pastry will make the danishes gluten-free.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, a spoon works just as well for applying the cream cheese filling.
  • Ensure the cream cheese filling is thick enough to hold its shape while baking.
  • For extra sweetness, dust finished danishes with icing sugar before serving.
  • Keep an eye on the pastries while baking as oven temperatures may vary.
