A refreshing and elegant Pink Grapefruit Basil Spritz cocktail that combines the zesty brightness of fresh pink grapefruit juice with the herbal aroma of basil and the crisp effervescence of prosecco. Perfect as a light, summery drink to enjoy on warm days or as a sophisticated aperitif.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cocktail

  • 2 oz pink grapefruit juice (freshly squeezed, if possible)
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 68 fresh basil leaves (plus extra for garnish)
  • 3 oz prosecco (to top each glass)
  • Ice cubes (to fill the glass)
  • 1 tsp simple syrup or honey (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass: Fill a wine glass or tall tumbler to the brim with ice cubes to keep your drink chilled and refreshing throughout.
  2. Muddle basil: Add 6-8 fresh basil leaves to a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle them using a muddler or the back of a spoon to release their fragrant oils, which will infuse the cocktail with a fresh herbal aroma.
  3. Add liquids: Pour 2 oz of pink grapefruit juice, 1 oz of vodka, and 1 tsp of simple syrup or honey (if using) into the shaker with the muddled basil leaves.
  4. Shake with ice: Add a handful of ice to the shaker, then shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to chill the mixture and blend the flavors well.
  5. Strain: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice to keep it cold without diluting the flavors.
  6. Top with prosecco: Slowly pour about 3 oz of prosecco into the glass, allowing the bubbles to mix gently with the cocktail.
  7. Garnish and serve: Garnish with a fresh basil sprig or a thin slice of grapefruit on the rim of the glass for an elegant finishing touch. Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing spritz.

Notes

  • Use freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice for the best bright and tangy flavor.
  • If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, add the optional simple syrup or honey; otherwise, omit it for a more tart taste.
  • Ensure to gently muddle the basil to release oils but not to shred the leaves, which can impart bitterness.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute vodka and prosecco with sparkling water and a splash of grapefruit soda.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the prosecco’s bubbles at their best before they dissipate.
