Base Ingredients
- 1 lb 2.12 oz Family Size package Oreo Cookies
- 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened to room temperature
Coating Ingredients
- 12 ounce bag red candy melts
- 12 ounce bag blue candy melts
- ⅓ cup Ghirardelli white melting wafers
Decoration
- White star confetti sprinkles for topping
- Prepare Baking Trays: Line two baking trays with parchment paper and set them aside to prevent sticking and help with easy removal of the Oreo balls.
- Crush Oreos: Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor or high-speed blender and pulse until they become fine crumbs, ensuring a smooth mixture when combined with cream cheese.
- Beat Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer on high speed to beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy for an even texture.
- Combine Oreos and Cream Cheese: Add the Oreo crumbs to the cream cheese bowl and mix on medium speed until fully incorporated and the mixture is uniform.
- Form Balls: Using a 1.5” cookie scoop, portion the mixture into even balls and roll them smoothly in your palms. Arrange the balls evenly spaced on the prepared baking trays.
- Chill Balls: Place the trays in the refrigerator for 2 hours to firm up the balls. Alternatively, freeze them for 15-20 minutes if you’re short on time.
- Melt Blue Candy Melts: Remove one tray of balls from the fridge. Using a double boiler over low heat or a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments, melt the blue candy melts until smooth, stirring often.
- Dip in Blue Coating: Using a fork, dip each ball completely into the melted blue candy melts. Lift and gently tap the fork to remove excess coating, then return the balls to the baking tray. Immediately sprinkle with white star confetti. Refrigerate to set the coating.
- Melt Red Candy Melts: Remove the second tray of balls from the fridge. Melt the red candy melts using the same double boiler or microwave method until smooth.
- Dip in Red Coating: Dip each ball fully into the red candy melts, tap off excess, and place on the baking tray. Repeat until all balls are coated.
- Melt White Wafers: Place ⅓ cup white melting wafers in a small piping bag. Microwave in 30-second intervals, massaging the bag at each break until completely melted and smooth.
- Decorate Red Balls: Snip a small tip off the piping bag and drizzle white lines over the red-coated Oreo balls for a patriotic striped effect.
- Final Chill: Return all coated Oreo balls to the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes to let the coatings fully set and harden.
- Serve and Enjoy: Keep the Oreo balls refrigerated until ready to serve. Enjoy this festive, sweet, and colorful treat at your next celebration!
Notes
- For a firmer ball, freeze the mixture slightly before rolling if it feels too soft.
- Use a gentle tapping motion when removing excess candy coating to avoid removing too much.
- White melting wafers can be substituted with white chocolate chips if unavailable.
- Store finished Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- You can use other sprinkles or decorations to match different themes if desired.
