Ingredients

Scale

Spices

  • 4 Tbsp ground turmeric
  • 2 tsp ground ginger powder (plus more to taste)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (plus more to taste)
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper (plus more to taste)
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp ground clove (optional)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp melted coconut oil
  • 34 Tbsp maple syrup (or other sweetener of choice; or omit and sweeten golden milk to taste upon preparation)
  • 12 Tbsp hot water
  • 1 ½ tsp Golden Milk Paste (per serving)
  • 1 cup dairy-free milk (per serving)
  • More sweetener to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Golden Milk Paste: In a small jar, combine all the spices, including the optional nutmeg and clove if using. Shake or stir thoroughly to blend them evenly. Add the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, and start with 1 tablespoon of hot water. Stir vigorously until a smooth paste forms, adding more hot water as needed to achieve the right consistency.
  2. Prepare Hot Golden Milk: Place 1 ½ teaspoons of the golden milk paste and 1 cup of dairy-free milk into a small saucepan. Whisk to combine the paste and milk evenly. Heat the mixture over medium heat just until it is warm and steaming, but do not allow it to boil. Taste and add extra sweetener if desired. Serve warm.
  3. Prepare Iced Golden Milk: In a glass jar with a lid, add 1 ½ teaspoons of golden milk paste and 1 cup of dairy-free milk. Shake vigorously until fully combined. Fill a serving glass with several large ice cubes and pour the shaken golden milk over the ice. Serve chilled.
  4. Store the Paste: Transfer the leftover golden milk paste into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 month. For longer storage, freeze the paste by spooning it into ice cube trays according to your preferred serving size and freeze. Defrost cubes as needed.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness of your golden milk beverage at serving to suit your taste preferences.
  • You can substitute maple syrup with honey or other liquid sweeteners if preferred.
  • Using freshly ground spices will enhance the flavor and nutrients of the paste.
  • Be careful not to boil the milk when heating to preserve the delicate flavors.
  • This paste is highly concentrated so use sparingly; a little goes a long way.
  • Storing in the freezer in portions allows easy preparation without waste.
