Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust:

  • 1 prepared pie crust

Filling:

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 lbs (about 7 cups) tart, green apples, such as Granny Smith
  • 1 cup (198g) sugar + 2 tbsp (25g), divided
  • 1/4 cup (30g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (8oz/ 236ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pie Crust: Roll out the pie crust and fit it inside a pie plate, shaping the edges. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Heat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  3. Prepare the Apples: Toss sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, cloves, and salt, then coat the apples with the mixture.
  4. Fill the Pie: Place coated apples in the pie crust, then pour the cream mixed with vanilla over them. Sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  5. Bake the Pie: Bake at 450°F (232°C) for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (176°C) and bake for 55-65 minutes until crust is baked and pie is set.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the pie cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 6 hours before serving. Enjoy chilled or at room temperature with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For the pie crust, you can use your favorite recipe or store-bought crust.
  • Ensure the bottom crust is baked through by using a glass pie plate and checking the color and texture.
  • If the top of the pie browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil during baking.
  • This pie is best served chilled or at room temperature.
