Cheesy Chicken Crescent Bake is a comforting and easy-to-make casserole featuring shredded chicken wrapped in buttery crescent roll dough, smothered in a creamy chicken soup sauce, and topped with melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for a family dinner or a quick weeknight meal, this recipe combines savory flavors and a golden crispy exterior with a gooey, cheesy inside.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or chopped (rotisserie works great)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Crescent Rolls

  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls (8-count)

Sauce

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped parsley for a pop of color

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set it aside to prepare for baking.
  2. Fill the Crescents: Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into individual triangles. Place a spoonful of cooked chicken and a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese at the wide end of each triangle. Carefully roll each crescent up starting at the wide end and rolling toward the point to enclose the filling. Place the rolled crescents seam side down in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Pour this sauce evenly over the arranged crescent rolls in the baking dish.
  4. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the sauce-covered crescents. This cheese will melt into a golden, bubbly topping as it bakes.
  5. Bake It Up: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling around the edges. Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken slightly, making it easier to scoop and enjoy.

Notes

  • Using rotisserie chicken saves time and adds flavor, but you can use any cooked chicken.
  • For a lighter version, use low-fat cream of chicken soup and reduced-fat cheddar cheese.
  • If desired, add chopped vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the filling for extra nutrition.
  • Make sure the crescent rolls are sealed tightly around the chicken to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or fresh herbs for a colorful presentation.
