These Banana Donut Holes are a deliciously moist and fluffy treat made with ripe bananas, self-rising flour, and a hint of cinnamon. Air-fried to golden perfection, they offer the comforting flavors of banana bread in a bite-sized donut form. Lightly coated in cinnamon sugar after air frying, they make a perfect snack or breakfast bite that’s both easy to prepare and satisfyingly sweet.

Ingredients

Scale

Banana Donut Holes

  • 1/2 cup Banana (about 1 large ripe banana)
  • 3/4 cup Self-Rising Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup Unrefined Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil, melted (plus 23 teaspoons additional for dough handling)
  • Avocado Oil Spray, for air fryer basket and donut holes

Instructions

  1. Mash Banana: Mash the ripe banana into a smooth puree ensuring you get exactly 1/2 cup, as this ratio is key for the dough consistency.
  2. Mix and Knead Dough: Add the self-rising flour and cinnamon to the mashed banana and stir initially with a rubber spatula until lumps form. Oil your hands lightly with melted coconut oil and knead the mixture into a sticky, moist dough ball. Use additional 2-3 teaspoons melted coconut oil as needed to prevent sticking; avoid adding more flour to keep dough moist and elastic.
  3. Shape Donut Holes: Grease your hands again with melted coconut oil and pinch off about a tablespoon of dough at a time. Roll each portion into a ball and place onto a parchment-lined plate. Repeat until all dough is shaped. Lightly spray the dough balls with avocado oil spray.
  4. Prepare Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket with avocado oil spray. Arrange the donut holes in the basket, keeping them spaced about 1 inch (3 cm) apart to allow expansion during cooking.
  5. Air Fry: Air fry at 350°F (180°C) for 6-7 minutes until the donut holes are puffy and golden brown. Don’t worry if they are not perfectly round; a rocky texture is normal.
  6. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Brush each warm donut hole with melted coconut oil using a pastry brush. Then roll each oiled donut hole in cinnamon sugar to coat evenly, giving them a classic donut flavor.
  7. Serve: Serve the banana donut holes warm immediately for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the banana is ripe for natural sweetness and moisture.
  • Do not over-flour the dough, it should be moist and sticky.
  • Using oil on your hands helps prevent sticking and aids in shaping the dough.
  • Air fryer temperatures and times may vary slightly based on your model; check towards the end to avoid burning.
  • Serve these donut holes warm for best flavor and texture; they can be stored in an airtight container and gently reheated.
