Ingredients

Scale

Apple Pie Dip

  • 5 medium apples (peeled, cored, and chopped into ¼ inch cubes)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Cinnamon Sugar Tortillas

  • 8 six-inch flour tortillas
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apple Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the chopped apple cubes, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and fresh lemon juice. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
  2. Cook Apples: Heat a large skillet or saucepan over medium-high heat. Pour the apple mixture and water into the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover with a lid and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer until the apples are very tender, about 10 minutes depending on the apple variety.
  3. Thicken the Dip: Remove ½ cup of the cooking liquid from the pan and whisk in the cornstarch until dissolved. Pour the cornstarch mixture back into the apples and stir thoroughly.
  4. Simmer to Thicken: Continue cooking the apple mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens to a dip-like consistency. Once thickened, remove from heat. The dip can be served warm or chilled according to preference.
  5. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a baking sheet by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray or lining it with parchment paper.
  6. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the tortilla chips.
  7. Prepare Tortillas: Spray both sides of each flour tortilla with non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle both sides generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Cut and Arrange Chips: Cut each tortilla into 8 wedges. Lay the wedges out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  9. Bake Chips: Bake the tortilla wedges at 350°F for 9-12 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crisp.
  10. Cool and Serve: Remove the baked chips from the oven and cool them on wire racks. Serve the crispy cinnamon sugar tortilla chips at room temperature alongside the apple pie dip.

Notes

  • For best texture, use firm apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • The dip can be served warm for a comforting dessert or chilled for a refreshing treat.
  • Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute the flour tortillas with gluten-free tortillas.
  • Adjust the cinnamon sugar amount on the chips to taste, adding more if you prefer a sweeter crunch.
